On Easter Sunday, a series of 8 suicide bombings targeted churches and luxury hotels in Sri Lanka’s capital of Colombo, as well as two other cities in the country’s north, Negombo and east, Batticaloa.

The death toll stands at 250+ people, with more than 500 people injured in these senseless attacks. The injuries sustained by these victims include limb amputations, Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs), extensive burns and internal organ damage.

The lives of hundreds of innocent people have been shattered and many have been left parentless, childless or facing a very different life to the one they had - having suffered the most horrific injuries, both physically and mentally. 36 of those innocent people who lost their lives were having breakfast that morning at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo with our DineForLanka Founder, Haneke, an Australian of Sri Lankan heritage.

In times of international trauma, especially in developing countries where hardship is already commonplace for a lot of people, it’s not unusual to feel like we’re too far away or removed to actually make a positive impact on the lives of these people, despite our desire to.

While we can’t take away their pain, the DineForLanka campaign was created to help bridge the gap and help those feeling helpless to contribute collectively and stand behind Sri Lanka in the face of the most horrific and heartbreaking circumstances.
